things that suck about freelancing (No. 1)

| | comments (2)

When you take a day or two off -- like, you know, a weekend, like how some other people get to have Saturday and Sunday off -- you pay for it with sleepless nights rushing to get the work done you would have spent Saturday and/or Sunday doing.

I freelance as well as having a day job, which means I often don't have weekends at all, and sometimes -- like this last weekend -- I have a horrible situation where I've planned time to catch up on freelance work and the day job intrudes, so not only am I working all weekend for my weekday job, I'm getting further behind on my freelance stuff.

(To make matters worse, my freelance client just lost his day job, so he's relying on me to finish my work so his side project can start bringing in more money)

I hardly ever get an entire weekend off. And by "weekend off," I mean a weekend even something as simple as two day to do the usual sort of weekend stuff that jams up many people's weekends, like laundry and grocery shopping, much less actual recreation.
