what hope looks like

| | comments (4)

Next week, I'll vote against John McCain. Next week, that means voting for Barack Obama. Alas that I believe that the biggest blow for racial equality Obama represents is that, hoorah! finally a black man is as compromised a politician as a white man.

Still, these photos make me sob like a baby:

The looks on those kids' faces... that's the kind of hope I'd like to have.

Hey, even if Obama can't keep his promises, it's better than McCain keeping his. My dad worked in Civil Rights for most of my life, down in the trenches. The fact that Obama could get elected justifies the work of people like my dad.
The middle East is my area of expertize and so here is my favorite qoute concerning Obama's presidency: "Today, everyone's talking about how wonderful you are. Right now you don't understand why Bill Clinton and George Bush couldn't solve a little thing like the Arab-Israeli conflict, defuse the massive hatred of America in the Middle East, end terrorism or turn radical Islamism into an ideology of peace. Don't worry. You will." - Barry Rubin
Perhaps if we didn't see it as our mission to solve the Arab-Israeli crisis, that might be a good start. Perhaps if we could wean ourselves off Middle East oil, that would be better. But as long as some Americans think it is their god-given right to drive around some obscence piece of shit that gets 12 miles to the gallon, that will never happen.
Amen to that.
