how not to be a writer

| | comments (4)

I'm not going to embarrass this blogger by posting a link to his blog, but I cannot resist pointing out his many excellent examples of something writers should never do... in fact, it's something that anyone who genuinely considers himself a writer should probably never even conceive of writing. Ever.

(This blogger claims he has "a BA in Professional Writing," which may well be true, and only goes to support my belief that writing cannot be taught.)

The first post I stumbled across on his site includes this gem:

I'm really not sure what to say about [subject of the damn post].

He's posting about something about which he doesn't know what to write. Turns out, this is a running theme at his blog:

I can't think of a lot to say about [subject of the damn post].

I'm not really sure what else to say about [subject of the damn post].

No one who doesn't realize that it's his job as a writer to have something to say about the things he wants to have something to say about should be calling himself a writer.

And his university instructors deserve to be whipped with a wet noodle. How does this poor excuse for a writer earn a degree in writing?

Hello Mary i have gone through your article quite deeply and u seem to be against people who r or wish to be a writer. Therefore, i would recommend u to visit [URL deleted by maj] which gives encouriging tips of why one should become a writer if he or she is interested.
I was almost going to delete the entire comment above, because it's just trolling for an SEO company (the URL had nothing to do with writing, and everything to do with SEO), but then I decided I had to leave it, because it's so funny. Enjoy.
Aw, I was really looking forward to some encouriging tips.
Did they really think a badly written paragraph would attract people who want to be professional writers? Or am I overestimating people's intelligence?
