sucks to be me

| | comments (10)

My rent went up this month, and just today one of my major freelance clients cut me back to half the work (and half what they were paying me). My other major freelance client hasn't raised my hourly rate in four years.

Forget about getting ahead: I can't even stay in the same place. Which I wouldn't be doing anyway today when the prices in the supermarket keep jumping from week to week.

But hey! My cat just died, so think of all the money I'll save on cat food and cat litter... after I pay off the vet for the job of sticking a needle in her and killing her. So why should I be complaining?

Oof, I'm sorry MaryAnn. That does suck. I was going to post my condolences about Cassie, but I couldn't get signed in at work. I don't have a MovableType login, and LiveJournal is blocked there, so I couldn't get in with that either. I just lost my cat that we had for about 15 years recently, too. She was old, and she had a good life, but she got sick and we had to have her put to sleep, so I can definitely empathize with you there. Anyway, here.
Not sure why that link doesn't seem to be working... It goes here: http://www.explodingdog.com/aug3/cheerup.html
Thanks, Count. And by the way, you can sign in anonymously -- that is, not via Live Journal or Typekey. You just put your name and email into the Moveable Type login screen.
Actually, the sign in doesn't work the same on this site as it does of Flickfilosopher.com. You need to sign up for a MovableType name to use that login, which you need to confirm at your e-mail address. And I didn't want to use my work e-mail for that, and I'm not able to access personal e-mail from work, so I was stymied there too. However, it looks like the same commenting system from FF is active here, but there's some javascript that hides it once the page loads. Poking around a bit more, looks like something must be wonky with http://www.maryannjohanson.com/mt.js. I'm at work and don't have much time to look at it, and I'm not great with javascript though, so I'm not sure what it is. Looks like something's probably screwy with an if statement up at the top, though.
if ( commenter_name && ( !commenter_id || commenter_blog_ids.indexOf("'1'") > -1))
Looks like that's coming up "true" when it shouldn't. I guess it's supposed to hide the anonymous comment form when you're already logged in? Maybe? Oops, and then I spoke too soon. Once I tried to submit this at work, it came back with:
Comment Submission Error Your comment submission failed for the following reasons:
Registration is required.
And now I'm back at home and submitting this with my LJ sign in.
Okay, I think I've fixed the commenting issue. You should be able to anonymously post comments -- without presenting a valid email address -- now.
Awwww MaryAnn, you poor bunny! "But hey! My cat just died, so think of all the money I'll save on cat food and cat litter..." -That is like THE MOST morbid example of seeing the good in bad. Minus the severe sarcastic undertones, it's damn near poetic. As a DJ and music enthusiast in general, I listen music sometimes just to cheer myself up. (I know its corny.) From what little I know about you, I really think you need to go see Indiana Jones or Wall-E one more time and cheer the hell up hun!
Dear M: Lift your chin, dry your eyes and open your heart- I've seen a vision of your future: you will be making a lighting quick thrust to the Northland going faster than a horse or Cheetah can run there-there be wine and song and lots of fun conversations will abound. Surrounded by Friends who live in the North Trees you will be reminded of your true value and mission for the Universe:{) P.S. And one day you will return to your duties as Princess of the Other Land. Affection BLue Eyed Dapper
Methinks someone forgot to take his meds today.
Methinks, I'm gunna have to agree with you on that one.
Ah, Dapper is just trying to be nice, even if it reminds me of when I was dating a Wiccan and she said we weren't going to work out because she was a Leo/Goat and I was a Libra/Dog, then I thought to myself that we weren't going to work out because she believed in astrology and I didn't.
