I haven’t been much in a mood for catblogging since Mrs. Kennedy died back on Halloween night. But I’m starting to feel the urge again, even though Sam and Cassie, the two cats who still live with me, are nowhere near as excited to be photographed as Mrs. Kennedy was. As recent pictures attest:

Sam is very doglike, and likes to sit at my feet while I work at the computer. And so I’ve had to replace the rug under the chair (which keeps it from sliding around on the hardwood floor, which is annoying for me, and making a racket for the guy who lives in the apartment under mine, which would surely be annoying to him). The previous rug -- which you can see in the pic of Sam in this posting -- was kind of like Martian camou. This one is a neato pseudo modern-art blocky thing. Both rugs were purchased from Ikea, cuz I’m cheap, and if I’m gonna have to replace cat-hair-infested rugs once a year, ten bucks apiece sounds much better than a thousand.

Cassie asleep in a sunny patch on the sofa. She pretty much does little but sleep these days. Both she and Sam are 17 years old -- 85 in people years, according to this site -- and I am genuinely prepared for either cat to depart this plane of existence at any time. (I was not prepared for Mrs. Kennedy, who was five years younger than these guys.) Cassie seems to have been getting a little senile over the last year or so: she has none of the unpleasant signs of feline senility the site linked above talks about, but she has reverted to kittenhood in some ways, suddenly much more affectionate that she used to be (she has even let me pick her up recently -- more than once!), and sometimes seeming like she has forgotten where the food bowls are until I remind her a couple times. But she seems happy in her senility (if that’s what it is), not miserable at all.
