how I got converted to 'Battlestar Galactica'...

| | comments (4)

Folks are wondering, in comments for the latest Geek/Dork/Nerd, about how I came to suddenly love Battlestar Galactica after being down on it for so long. Get the story here, in a posting at the new Film.com (I'm one of the site's new regular bloggers.)

Commenting isn't turned on yet at Film.com, so feel free to comment here about the BSG posting...

Well, I'm glad to see that you gave it another try. I guess I can't mention a lot of stuff because you haven't seen season 2, but damn. Just.. damn. This is a show that I have to be in the mood to watch because it will make me shout or make me sad, and I don't always want to be toyed with. I thought the opening to Season 3 was a bit "Iraq war!" heavy, but, you know, how else -would- it be? I mean really? What else could the humans do? One of my favorite moments in Farscape was when it made us see John being a nuclear terrorist.. and we as the audience were on his side. How often are we ever on that side and made to consider just who and just why people do desperate things? So I think maybe I can't hold anything against BSG.
I'll give you some of your misgivings about the mini-series - they were trying to do a lot with it from the get go. When the series started however, it was almost a different show... "33" was incredibly intense! The show has kept that up too. You don't really know who are the good or bad guys...at least you are seeing disention among the ranks on both sides and I dig that. I'm glad you got into the show though! On another note, I'm also surprised that you haven't mentioned anything about Stargate SG1 ending, a fact of which I am very sad.
*Stargate SG-1* isn't ending... it's just ending on SciFi. At least that's how I interpret the fact that the producers have been very specific in saying that there will be no more episodes on that network.
Welcome aboard! We've been waiting for you. Awesome, awesome show. One of my two favorites; LOST being the other (although... Veronica Mars may have just become a new favorite, too, after having devoured Season 1 this past weekend). TV-on-DVD is one of the best inventions ever, and BSG is some of the best TV ever.
