the fannish cars of Worldcon

| | comments (5)

Seen in the parking lot at Worldcon, interesting bumper stickers:

And even more interesting cars in their entirety, such as the automobile painted by the artisans of Lascaux:

And the staff vehicle of Darth Vader’s inner circle:

A better-lit closeup of that writing on the panel:

Best of all, perhaps, the image on one of the side panels:

Seriously, though, these two cars illustrate the genuine intellectual beauty of science fiction fans: they run the gamut from people fascinated by the roots of human ingenuity and creativity and artistic passion to people who dress up like Stormtroopers and visit kids in hospitals because the kids get a kick out of it.

What does the bumper sticker in the first picture say? I can only see half of it.
Really? You can only see half of it? It says "Who would Jesus bomb?"
Actually the 'Lascaux artwork' appears to be Australian aboriginal art. Just FYI. :)
I think many of those symbols would be found in cave art around the planet -- certainly, the hands would. But I'm no expert.
the "dots" and double lines is what gives the impression of Australian "dream time" art -- hands are universal and can be found from Indonesia to the Americas, as can any number of circles, "cup markings" and spirals. this was a very cool car, and seems to me to be an incorporation of all the early styles of art that impressed the owner/artist.
