I KNEW there was something about Atlantis that I didn't like... now I have a name for it.
Nothing about Battlestar Galactica? I'm a recent addict of the show (am currently waiting for Netflix to deliver the Season 1 dvd), and not only love all the great storylines and really wonderful acting, but am really appreciating all the gorgeous bodies on view, especially Jamie Bamber's incredible arms.
I can't get into BG -- it drives me insane how they all have names like "Sharon" and wear neckties and business suits. Their culture should be alien -- they've been removed from Earth culture for how many thousands of years? I know that's a dumb thing to get worked up about, and I know some concessions have to be made to practicality, but I just can't suspend my disbelief. Maybe I'll give it another try on DVD...
"...but when did Teal'c turn into Ripley?" If I remember correctly the transformation into Ripley started the exact moment they began fighting the replicators, and he was fully turned when they fought them on the russian sub.
No, I think it has something more to do with whenever it was (but it was recent) that he stopped using his Jaffa staff weapon and discovered how freakin' cool Tau'ri guns are.
Battlestar is so worth your time MaryAnn. I can't suggest ways for getting over the name thing. One of my friends has a problem with them cursing using 'frak' "why can't they just say it for real... or avoid it entirely". I dunno. The point isn't that they're aliens. Or non-Earthlings. The point is that they're us.
They can't be us. They can be human, sure, but they can't be us. Hell, the Japanese are more alien that the BG people. That drives me nuts. Ya wanna make a metaphor about contemporary American culture? Fine. Just don't set it on the other side of the galaxy among people who have been separated from Earth cultures for how many thousands of years?
