In honor of Christian Bale's donning of the Batsuit, herewith the full Batman spectrum. That's Clooney in the middle, BTW: the nipples are the dead giveaway, and what did him in.

I find this one interesting, because neither the Bale (I assume -- haven't seen it yet) or Clooney Batmans were *actually* geeks or dorks; it's just that if we translate batman-space to geek-space, then, yeah, they wind up mapping to the geek and dork positions. The Adam West batman, of course, *actually was* a nerd -- he wasn't simply a batman-space nerd-analog! Nonethelss I liked the Adam West Batman far better than the '80s Keaton/Kilmer/Clooney Batman; even though it was fantastically nerdy, it at least was self-aware and had (for want of a better phrase) a purity of vision. I'm hoping that Chris Nolan does likewise.
Oh, Nolan is pure, all right. This new *Batman* gives me chills, it's so *right.*
The different levels of bat-success are explored in a particularly geeky post on my own blog, MaryAnn. I invite you to check out my theory as to why certain geek properties are hitting serious critical and commercial heights these days. http://blog.soundacious.com/?p=329
